People are talking and showing tankless hot water heaters at home and garden trade shows. What is so great about them since they seem to store water like a regular tank?

Answer:

Tankless water heaters do not store hot water like a traditional one does. Instead the tankless one heats the water when you use it for a shower, to do dishes, laundry etc. Regular water heaters keep the water hot 24 hours a day and keeps heating and reheating the stored water and wasting energy when you are not using the hot water.

Benefits of a tankless water heater is that it takes less space in your home and they are mounted to the wall instead of taking up space on the floor. Tankless water heaters save you energy as they heat the hot water only when you need it and you will never run out of hot water again as they provide an endless supply of hot water unlike a traditional tank that can run out once all the hot water in the tank is used and you have to wait for more to be heated up.
