How To Reduce Water Usage & Save Money

June 7, 2011

Do faucet aerators conserve water?

Faucet aerators help to direct the flow of water and, especially in the instance of homes where water is provided by a well, help to trap particulates before they enter your cup, bowl or pan.

The market has many environmentally friendly low-flow aerators that restrict water flow to 1.5 to 2.2 gallons of water per minute. In addition, ultra low-flow aerators are now also available and allow 0.5 to 1.0 gallons per minute.

Ride To Conquer cancer

Many of my friends and colleagues have been touched in some way by cancer. Twenty years ago I joined the ranks of those who fought and survived. We are all either survivors; we are fighting our way through the disease; we have lost loved ones, or we are caring for loved ones with cancer. No matter where we are in this picture we know a cure has to be found.

I am participating in The Ride to Conquer Cancer, a 260 kilometer cycling adventure through the Pacific Northwest to raise money for cancer research. I am writing you because I believe that you would agree with me that even modest headways in research give us hope for the future.

I would like to share with you my thoughts and invite you to check out my webpage at http://www.conquercancer.ca/goto/BrianWilliams. You will see a description of The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. I want you to know that I so appreciate those who join with me in this small effort to help. We all do our part when we can and when were able, therefore even good wishes are appreciated. For the next few weeks I will be riding my bike to get into shape and hopefully raise the money promised as a participant. My thanks for anything you can contribute.

Way to go Union Gospel Mission!

Having grown up in the community, and played sports my entire life, I know how important it is to keep recreational and competitive leagues running for our children. I also know how difficult and expensive it can be. In an attempt to give back to the community that supported me growing up, we sponsor a number of sports teams, including: the Semiahmoo Predators, Semiahmoo Ravens, Flying Blue Camels (all of which I also help coach), the Vipers, and the Richmond Sockeyes hockey teams, as well as the Ashton Mechanical Men’s soccer team.

The time and energy that my wife and I put into these teams has paid back ten-fold every time we see the smiles on the players’ faces as they are given their new jerseys, or when they score the last second goal to win the game. With sports playing such a strong role in my life growing up, and my children’s lives now, it seems like the least we can do.

How To Reduce Water Consumption

June 6, 2011

What should I know about water conservation shower-heads?

Low-flow shower-heads are very economical and efficient. They can reduce your water consumption without any noticeable difference when you take a shower. They are often classified as shower-heads with a consumption rate of 0.5 to 2 gallons of water per minute.

Older high-flow or unrestricted shower heads in systems with more typical 50psi water mains pressure can flow over 4 gallons per minute. A five minute shower would use 20 gallons of water with an older unrestricted shower head, although it could be more.

The low-flow shower-heads are ideal to have nowadays as we are trying our very best to tighten our belts but not all of them are the same. Some are better than others so give us a call to get some professional advice. – Richmond Heating

Cost Savings Idea For Heating

June 2, 2011

I live in a condo and wondered if there are heating savings my strata can look into?

Yes, if you have ever wondered about the next five years with increased strata fees due to heating inefficiencies. However you may want to think about maintaining or improving the quality of service while keeping strata fees down.

If your building or complex is over 20 years old you may have old gas fired boilers and/or water heaters but it would be advantageous to look at a way to supply hot water more efficiently.

You will want to look at the lifespan of the water heaters and the replacement costs each year. Now compare that to installing a new system such as a single boiler plus storage tanks. Your operating savings could be substantial….Possibly as much as 15% per year.

If you would like to find out how to save e3ven more on your heating bills give us a call for a free consultation. Click Here for Richmond Heating ideas about reducing your hydro bill.
