Events Around Metro Vancouver this Weekend

When the weather is great, people can’t wait until it is the weekend. We thought to share some events that are happening around Metro Vancouver to help you plan your Saturday and Sunday.

Abbotsford:

  • BC Professional Truck Driving Championships are happening Saturday June 21st from 7:30am to 5pm at Tradex. The admission is free with parking being $6.

There are five classes of competition ranging from Straight Truck to B-Train.  The competition consists of three tests of knowledge and skill: written exam, which tests the drivers’ general knowledge of the industry and equipment; a vehicle inspection, during which drivers must find a series of planted defects; and the driving competition, which simulates the everyday skills of maneuvering, cornering and judging distance on an obstacle course.

Richmond:

  • Richmond Night Market 2014 is happening every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from now until October 12th 2014. May 16, 2014 to October 12. Best to come with cash and a group of people try a little bit of everything from the numerous food stands.

  • International Summer Night Market is returning with a new theme and more games. This night market runs until September 14 every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Surrey:

  • FREE Park Play summer program for kids with Park Play Palooza on June 21 from 11am-2pm at the Cloverdale Athletic Park. Come climb an outdoor rock wall, get your face painted, and meet your summer Park Play staff.

Print your own copy of the Park Play Passport or pick one up at Palooza. And, don’t forget to enter our Park Play Colouring Contest for your chance to win a prize!

  • Doors Open Surrey on Saturday June 21 from  1:00am to 4:00pm

Be a tourist in your own city during the 3rd annual Surrey Doors Open event. 48 unique sites in City Centre, Bear Creek, Newton and Cloverdale will be open to the public with free admission for the day.  Experience the cultural richness Surrey has to offer. Participants can explore parks, places of worship, art exhibits, universities, recreation centres, historic and architectural sites. Enjoy many activities including guided tours, presentations, children’s activities, food and entertainment.

Vancouver:

  • The annual Dragon Boat Festival is happening  June 20-23 at Creekside Community Centre & False Creek with various live entertainment, visual arts, family activities and food as well as dragon boat races.

  • Vancouver International Jazz Festival starting June 20 – July 1 with various free and ticketed performances at 35 venues in Downtown Vancouver and Granville Island. Over 300 performance will happen.

  • If you want to take a little break from the World Cup, why not go to the preseason game for the BC Lions. They will be taking on the Calgary Stampeders and is sure to be a rowdy and fun time on June 20th with kick off at 7pm and doors at 6pm.

  • Greek Day on Broadway from 11am-9pm on Broadway from MacDonald to Blenheim that will have plenty of Greek food, and drinks as well as dancing, live entertainment. This event always draws a large crowd.

Or you can head to one of the coffee shops and bars or stay home and catch some FIFA World Cup matches.

Argentina vs. Iran and Germany vs. Ghana on Saturday.
